Combining social, clinical, experimental, and biological research, Professor Holt examines the costs and benefits of relationships. Her research focuses on interpersonal dynamics and studies how partners influence one another. She is interested in all types of relationships: familial relationships, romantic relationships, and friendships.
Her research aims to understand how partners bring out the best and the worst in each other. It seeks to find ways of promoting harmonious relationships while avoiding misunderstandings. Her research covers various topics within this broad theme, including secrecy, disclosure, privacy management, trust, control, violence, divorce, and abuse.
